IN THE HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING was written by Edvard Grieg. It was incidental music for Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt, and was premiered in 1876. As Peer Gynt enters the banqueting hall, the Mountain King is sitting on his throne, surrounded by a great crowd of troll courtiers, gnomes and goblins.
